The Little Black Dog Bakery:
Our History

Bailey joined our family in the summer of 1996. A lab/shepherd cross, she demonstrated very early on that she had inherited the ‘anything goes’ appetite of a lab and the finicky digestive system of a shepherd. We had constant troubles altering her diet in any way and that included treats. As she ages, we recognize this will become even more of a challenge.

I picked up my first cookie sheet in 2001 in an effort to create some nutritious, homemade ‘positive reinforcement’ treats for her walks; from there, everything just grew. I added flavours and honed the recipes. My extended family became curious about our stash of goodies to the point where they and their own pets eagerly acted as guinea pigs in our test kitchen! Very simply, word spread.

We've also found that the natural, bursting-with-flavour goodness of Little Black Dog Bakery treats is enjoyed by rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs!

Today, Bailey enjoys her position as majority shareholder in The Little Black Dog Bakery, happily surveying the day-to-day activities of the growing business that revolves around her belly.
